Borrowing free ebooks just got easier for Randolph Public School students! As part of a collaboration between the Turner Free Library and Randolph Public Schools to support virtual learning, Randolph High School students can now borrow free books from the Old Colony Library Network through the free Sora app, available through the iTunes and Google Play stores, using their student ID numbers. Within the Sora ereader app, students will have the option to define words, make notes, enable read-alongs with professional narration, and adjust the font type (including dyslexic font) and size for a comfortable reading experience.
Thea Stovell, Superintendent of Randolph Public Schools, says, "Randolph Public Schools is excited to partner with the Turner Free Library. This ebook sharing service will be a great tool for our students as they explore the various titles, find engaging stories to read and build their literacy skills at home. There are so many advantages of reading: Students boost their vocabulary and learn to eloquently express themselves, they increase their critical thinking skills, and experience greater success in school, just to name a few. Families...encourage your children to read aloud to you or draw pictures of characters, or act out a scene in the story. Take advantage of this reading resource and read, read, read. Continued thanks to the Turner Free Library for their continued support of RPS."
More information about Sora is available online at www.overdrive.com/apps/sora/. This collaboration with Randolph Public Schools is part of the Turner Free Library's continuing commitment to meeting the virtual needs of all of Randolph's residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous efforts have included the implementation of HelpNow, an elearning platform that provides homework help for all ages, and Mango Languages, an online language-learning program offering instruction in over 70 world languages, as well as the unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees to remove late fees on all traditional library items. The library is continuing to resume its services safely and we invite you to stay up-to-date on all our latest news by visiting www.turnerfreelibrary.org.
